A tiny baby boy shouted New Year’s greeting to its parents at Cottage Hospital at 12:45 early this New Year’s Day, the first child to be born in Marin County in 1942. The parents are Mr. and Mrs. William Silva, of 908 Fifth street, San Rafael. The infant, according to Dr. Lloyd Tyler, and the attending nurse, weighed exactly 6 pounds, 10 1/2 ounces, and arrived in perfect health, and the mother’s happy and healthy too. The New Year’s baby has a brother at home, who thinks its wonderful and so does their dad. The parents are now thinking up a name for their new son. **** The second baby to be born in Marin County during the New Years day, came to the wife of Roy Lavigna, Ignacio. It’s a boy and was born about 9 p.m. Jan. 1, 1942 at Cottage Hospital, with Dr. R. Weseman of Novato in attendance. The child weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces. |

Two Babies Born During Blackout
Two babies were born at Cottage Hospital last Wednesday during a blackout period. Although the blackout came on at 9:01 and the all clear at 9:20, auxiliary blackout lights were used by the hospital staff. The first baby arrived at 8:56, for Mr. and Mrs. John Calkins, of San Anselmo. It was a boy. Mrs. Calkins is the former Miss “Penney” Jones. The second baby, a girl, was born at 9:25 to Mrs. Walter Wilson of Sausalito. |
